Samsung Might Equip the Galaxy S25 Series with MediaTek Chips

While we are just a few weeks away from the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6, there’s a wild rumor circulating that Samsung might be launching three variants of the Galaxy S25 series: aside from the expected Snapdragon and Exynos variants, there’s a possibility that the Galaxy S25 series will have a MediaTek variant.

The idea may sound very strange considering Samsung has never used MediaTek chips on its flagship devices. However, there was a GeekBench listing that has a Galaxy Tab S10+ running a Dimensity 9300+ processor. The Galaxy Tab S9 series debuted in July last year, so we might get to see the Tab S10 series at the next Unpacked event on July 10.

As much as the rumor is wild, there’s a possibility that Samsung might use MediaTek chips on the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy Tab S10 series. There are two reasons for this: the first one being the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 rumored to be more expensive than the 8 Gen 3 by at least $70–if Samsung wants to minimize increasing prices for the Galaxy S25 series, it has to resort to other chip options.

The second reason has to do with production issues on the upcoming Exynos 2500: while its yield is at 40%, that’s still far from the 60% yield Samsung needs before it can start mass production of its next Exynos chip. With those reasons in mind, adding a MediaTek variant to the Galaxy S25 series might be Samsung’s next solution–unless it can improve yields on the Exynos 2500 or it can negotiate with Qualcomm for a lower price on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
