Smart Netphone Details Revealed
A few days ago we shared that we received an exclusive invite to a blogger’s roundtable with the SMART Netphone. We’ve been hearing about this phone for several months now and the biggest selling point for me was my impression that it would be the most affordable Android smartphone in the market. However it looks like that’s not the case. We were initially thinking that this would be less than Php5,000 however the official price was just released and it will retail for Php9,900. What makes it attractive though is the postpaid packages. For Plan 999 you get the Netphone for free and you will also get 3,500 of texts, 200 minutes of calls, and 1GB worth of data. Not bad! Regardless of what plan you get you will also have the SmartNet feature.
What is SmartNet?
It’s a bunch of exclusive apps to the Netphone that’s closely integrated with SMART. This includes the Netphone Messenger which will allow you to send and receive messages for free from other Netphone users. Think of this like BlackBerry Messenger but on a different platform and ecosystem. There’s also the Social Stream which is a one-stop shop for all the updates of your social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter). Lastly there’s the Global Directory which lets you easily add friends who signed up on SmartNet.
Here’s the fun part — those features I just mentioned are all free. Well, until December 31, 2011. 😀
What about hardware?
- 600 MHz processor
- 3.2 MP Camera, 30fps Video
- Weighs 120g
- Dimensions: 114mmx56mmx12.2mm
- Memory: Internal Memory – about 150 MB for user, comes with a 2GB Micro SD memory card, expandable up to 16GB.
- 3.5″ 800×480 WGA capacitive touchscreen
- OS: Android 2.2 Froyo
It’s definitely still a good mid-class smartphone based on the hardware.
We’ll have a more solid recommendation after we get to try the phone out next week at the Blogger’s Roundtable. Please do check back for the unboxing and full review once we have the unit.
‘Till then have a good long weekend everyone! Cheers!
