Sony Launches A7R III In SEA

The new mirrorless camera will go on sale in the PH soon

We’re in Singapore for the regional launch of Sony’s new A7R III mirrorless camera today. The A7R III is the third generation of the Japanese company’s full-frame mirror-less camera, and combines many of the A9’s top-end features into a relatively cheaper shooter.

Sony’s stuffed a full-frame, 42.4-megapixel EXMOR R sensor powered by their BIONZ image processor into the latest model, which means that the new iteration of the camera shoots at twice the resolution of the previous model. It’s also wickedly fast, and while it’s no A9 (the flagship model has a stacked full frame sensor) it’s still a speedy camera, capable of fast AF/AE tracking for continuous shooting at up to 10 FPS with a silent shutter when you want to be discreet.

The A7R III can also track and focus a person’s eyes, even when they’re moving quickly, and the camera has a pixel-shift feature allowing it to take four different images that it composites in one photo. The result is better details in shots, though it only works with static subjects.

The A7R III also has a few new video tricks as well, including 4K capture with Super 35 oversampling mode, and the ability to shoot in 120FPS at full HD. The camera also supports shooting HDR via the hybrid log gamma HDR standard, as well as S-Log 3 support.

The camera has the same outward appearance as the A7R II, with a few enhancements: there’s a joystick now for better navigation through the camera’s menus, a touch-sensitive screen for picking focus points, two SD card slots for even more storage, better battery life since it uses the same battery pack as the A9, plus USB Type-C connectivity for faster transfers.

Along with the A7RIII, Sony also launched their new FE 24-105 F4 G OSS. The new lens has a standard zoom with a f/4.0 aperture across the entire range, and is supposed to be cheaper than their already existing FE 28-135mm F/4.0 G lens.

The new A7R III has a price of Php 179,999 when it arrives in the Philippines later this December, but no firm local launch date as of yet.
