TECNO Just Made A Flip For Everyone With The PHANTOM V Flip

Today marks a turning point for foldables, as Chinese brand TECNO severely undercut its competition with its newly launched Phantom V Flip. With a price of INR 49,999, (which translates to roughly Php 34,000 in our currency), it’s several thousand pesos cheaper than its closest competition, the OPPO Find N2 Flip, and miles away from Samsung’s current generation flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip5.

The official price of the TECNO PHANTOM V Flip

We expect the Phantom V Flip to ship with a price close to what the Indian SRP in the Philippines even when factoring in taxes and duties, as the Phantom V Fold was right around the same price in the Philippines as it was in the Indian market. And if we know anything about TECNO, they’re itching to disrupt the foldable market in all the regions they currently reside in, as the prices of devices sold by its competitors are significantly higher than what a typical smartphone costs.

If you ask me, owning a flip foldable is more attractive to most consumers than owning a book-type foldable. For one thing that particular form factor makes it much easier to store and carry VS a normal smartphone – I’m more in favor of using a flip VS a fold as a daily driver, male stereotypes be damned.

And for the people who say that TECNO, a brand known for making affordable, bang-for-the-buck phones isn’t as adept as making high-end devices like foldable as brands like Samsung, Huawei, or OPPO – you guys need to touch and hold the Phantom V Fold, at the very least. While there are some compromises made in the materials used on the phone to keep costs down, those design choices don’t negatively affect how the phone looks or functions. Sure, the phone doesn’t have a flagship processor, but not every phone does. The MediaTek Dimensity 8050 is a perfectly good processor for what it is and for what the phone is intended to do, and I’m sure most people won’t mind that the Phantom V Flip has that chip in it.

We’re at a turning point as far as foldables are concerned, and the Phantom V Flip is just the beginning. We’re going to start seeing more foldables come down in price over the next few months as consumers start looking for a flip or a fold that they can afford.
