The Plot Thickens: Galaxy S24 Series MIGHT Use Exynos 2400

The Galaxy S23 series is the first from Samsung’s flagship line in a while to be entirely powered by Snapdragon processors (specifically, a higher-binned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 made for Samsung). This move reportedly made the Galaxy S23 series sell well–especially if you consider the generally positive reviews on the S23 Ultra. Recently, there are rumors about the Galaxy S23 FE still existing and potentially using an Exynos 2200 processor–and the latest one points to the upcoming Galaxy S24 series using an Exynos 2400 instead of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

While Samsung does have a multi-year agreement with Qualcomm for custom Snapdragon chips–with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy being the first–it seems that Samsung is not yet giving up on its Eyxnos processors even if people have mixed opinions about it. As bizarre as it may sound, Samsung is reportedly developing the Exynos 2400–with mass production expected to begin by November 2023.

The Exynos 2400 will be an interesting chip with its 10-core design that will consist of a Cortex-X4, 2 Cortex-A720 (high frequency), 3 Cortex-A720 (low frequency), and 4 Cortex-A520. The last time we saw a 10-core processor was MediaTek’s Helio X30 back in 2017–and not a lot of brands utilized it.

While the Exynos 1380 proved to be a big improvement over the Exynos 1280 based on our performance test, we’re on the fence if Samsung was able to make the necessary fixes to make its flagship Exynos chips competitive against similar offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. There’s still hope that the Galaxy S24 series will stick to Snapdragon processors–but if Samsung decides to use the Exynos 2400, they will have to prove to everyone that their next flagship performs very well.
