The overall design of the Xiaomi Redmi Pad is neat and tidy. It has a metal unibody in a matte finish, giving the tablet a premium look. At the front, the bezels are uniform on each side and the selfie camera is horizontally-centered. At the back, the camera island is proportionally divided into two: one for the camera and one for the label.

Surely, this is one big and sexy tablet. It is 250mm wide, 158mm tall, and only 7.1mm thin. Despite its huge size, it is very light and easy to hold, weighing in at only 465g and having flat edges with round corners. Even holding it for hours won’t give you fatigue as the weight is evenly distributed across its wide body.

This tablet houses four speakers–2 on each side. In its horizontal orientation, you can find the power button on the left side and the USB Type-C port on the right side. The volume rocker can be found at the top, just beside the SIM card tray.

Display and Sound

According to Xiaomi, consumers invest in a tablet for its screen. This is why the Redmi Pad sports a huge 10.61-inch display that offers a 2,000×1,200 pixels resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and 400 nits of peak brightness.

The tablet’s nice screen is perfect for watching videos in higher-than-average quality (we’re talking 1440p and up here), and you’ll appreciate the smooth refresh rate, bright IPS screen, vivid colors and sharp images. Unfortunately, it goes the other way too – watching low-quality content will amplify their flaws and pixels – this is definitely very apparent when you start watching TikTok vids.

Adding even more enjoyment are the quad-speakers that are Dolby Atmos certified. They are loud and clear at any volume level. In fact, there is no need to max out volume even in public places. Sadly, you can’t plug in your traditional audio gear as this tablet doesn’t have a headphone jack, so Bluetooth is the only way.

The camera found on the rear of the Redmi Pad is an 8-megapixel unit with an f/2.0 aperture. It doesn’t come with a flash module but has autofocus along with a variety of shooting features. The camera at the front is an 8-megapixel unit as well but with f/2.3 aperture.

We really don’t expect much from this tablet, camera-wise. This is because people don’t normally use tablets for photography. It is also much easier to just use your phone. Nevertheless, here are the sample photos taken with this tablet:

As expected, it performs satisfactorily as long as there is enough lighting. The colors and details are acceptable in well-lit environments, while it becomes very grainy in low-light scenarios.

Both the rear and front cameras can record at 1080p/30fps, although this shouldn’t really matter as they are primarily just for video calls.

Internals and Battery Life

Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G99, an octa-core processor with no LTE option. You can get it with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, while internal storage is fixed at 128GB but expandable up to 1TB via microSD card.

To those unfamiliar, the Helio G99 is an improvement from the Helio G96 as it uses a 6nm processor and comes with higher-clocked Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2Ghz. This makes the Helio G99 at par with the popular Snapdragon 680 on paper.

True enough, the tablet can manage games such as Asphalt 9, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Call of Duty: Mobile in medium settings. So, usual apps like Facebook, TikToK, and Instagram are just a piece of cake even when they’re running side by side. Check the results below.

As for the operating system, it comes with a special version of MIUI that’s specifically designed for tablets, although it is still based on Android 12.

Lastly, it comes with a huge 8,000mAh battery. During our test, this battery drained from full to 20% in 16 hours and 32 minutes. Moreover, it reached full charge from zero percent in exactly 2 hours and 38 mins using the supplied 18W charger.

Wrap Up and Conclusions

The Xiaomi Redmi Pad is an excellent all-rounder device. It has everything you would want in a tablet: good design, a huge display, and a capable processor. In addition, Xiaomi gave it a very reasonable price hence you just can’t go wrong with this one, whether for gaming, work, or school.

If you find the Helio G99 kind of lacking, there is the realme Pad X equipped with Snapdragon 695. However, you will have to settle for a smaller display and battery. You’ll also lose the precious 90hz display and metal unibody chassis.
