Acer Says Customer Data is Safe after Employee Data Breach

Acer Philippines has issued a press statement regarding a security breach incident that resulted in unauthorized access to its database which contains information about specific employees. Acer acknowledges the security breach and assures everyone that its customer data is not affected by the incident.

“It is crucial to emphasize that the attendance database run by a third-party vendor is entirely distinct from our customer databases,” Acer Philippines emphasized in its press statement. “Our internal systems safeguard our customer databases to protect your data against threats.”

Before Acer Philippines’ statement, Deep Web Konek reported the security breach, where “277 lines of employee information, encompassing fields such as first name, middle name, last name, username, password, role, birthdate, mobile number, email address, employer’s name, and department,” was exposed.

Further investigation revealed that #OpEDSA is the threat actor behind the security breach, and explained that they targeted big companies like Acer Philippines in its aim to disrupt the status quo that involved “political squabbles of wealthy political families and their neglect of the country’s pressing issues.”

#OpEDSA explained that their motive is from their “deep-seated desire to end the era of political dynasties and the elite class’s stranglehold on power in the Philippines,” and explained that their motive is inspired by the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
