BYD’s New Qin Plus EV Honor Edition Is As Cheap As A Gas Car

Electric cars are awesome, but one thing that’s keeping people buying them is the price. They’re significantly more than your typical internal combustion engine (ICE) car, even in countries where EVs are subsidized by the government. BYD wants to make EVs as cheap as gas cars, which is why they’ve launched their new Qin Plus EV Honor Edition in China, which is priced at just 109,800 RMB, or around Php 854K.

If that’s the price for the car when it arrives in the Philippines, it’s going to sell like hotcakes. Right now BYD’s cheapest EV is priced at 1.4M, which is still pretty expensive as far as cars go.

And BYD’s new EV isn’t a toy car that you’ll just use in the city either. It has a peppy electric motor that’s rated at 100KW (134HP) with 180Nm (132 lb-ft) of max torque and comes in two range flavors: 48 kWh or 57.6 kWh battery pack for up to 420KM and 510KM of CLTC range.

The Qin Plus EV Honor Edition looks like your typical 2024 sedan, which makes its China price even more insane. A lot of people probably won’t be caught dead in a Jetour Ice Cream EV despite its affordable price tag, but I bet they’d be more than willing to dish out cash for this thing.
