BYE NOTCH: All iPhone 15 Models May Switch To Dynamic Island

Ever since Apple made the switch from their original, home-button-equipped design, the notch-oriented front aesthetic that was introduced with the Apple iPhone X has stayed. But perhaps the brand believes it’s overstayed its 6-year-old welcome – especially since you can’t really tell the brand’s phone models apart without checking out the rear camera modules. Now there are rumors swirling around that the Apple iPhone 15 models, vanilla or Pro, may all be abandoning the notch to adopt the Dynamic Island. Here’s the latest news.

Based on Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants’ claims, this may the final year that we see an iPhone with a notch. After all, the design has fallen drastically out of style. Only entry-level Android devices have notches now – the rest opting for punch-holes, mechanized workarounds, or even the future-facing under-display selfie shooters.

As such, those who don’t like the Dynamic Island may not be left with a choice but to stick with these iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models. This is because the iPhone 15 might ditch the notch. We have no news yet if there’ll be an iPhone 15 Plus considering the market disaster that was its predecessor, but if there is, then the notch won’t be there too. Despite this change, Apple is still intent on setting a distinction between the vanilla and more expensive Pro models.

This will come in the form of ProMotion, wherein the standard variants are expected to be staying with 60Hz refresh rate displays for the foreseeable future. This is also quite saddening since even midrange Android models are receiving 120Hz displays. Yes, iOS is king in terms of smoothness, and some might even argue that a 60Hz iPhone can match a 90Hz Android device in terms of fluidity. But the gap between 60 and 120Hz is too gargantuan to overcome with software.

Moving into the future, it seems that there are plans to move FaceID and the hole underneath the screen. Only time will tell if these plans are set – especially since we know Apple doesn’t implement new technologies unless they’ve been tried and tested in the market.
