Globe to Offer VoLTE Roaming Soon

As part of its series of network upgrades, Globe announced that it has successfully conducted technical tests on outbound and inbound Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Roaming with Airtel of India. This is a positive development for the local telco, as some overseas operators are set to retire their 2G and 3G networks to make way for 4G and 5G networks–with VoLTE as being part of 4G.  as it prepared for the shift of some overseas operators from legacy networks.

“Globe will continue to innovate and invest in new technologies to ensure that our customers have the best service. We are excited to roll out VoLTE Roaming and provide them with a seamless and enjoyable experience while traveling in foreign destinations,” Globe Vice President for Postpaid and International Business said.

One of the benefits VoLTE offers is that it has faster call setup times and clearer voice quality than 2G and 3G. With Globe set to offer VoLTE roaming to more countries soon, users who travel abroad will be able to benefit from it when they are using the networks of Globe’s roaming partners.

Calls and texts over 4G and 5G networks will require subscribers to have VoLTE-capable handsets and the availability of VoLTE roaming service.

While VoLTE roaming is still being built, Globe subscribers in countries that no longer have any 2G or 3G access may opt to subscribe its data roaming offers that allows them to make and receive calls and messages through Over-the-top (OTT) apps such as Viber, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Customers may easily register and track their data usage via the GlobeOne app.
