PLDT No Longer Acquiring Sky Cable

With only a few days before Sky Cable’s paid cable business was supposed to cease operations comes a new twist: in a PSE disclosure released today, February 22, PLDT announced that they have mutually agreed with ABS-CBN to not proceed with the sale of Sky Cable based on the Sale and Purchase Agreement signed by both parties back in March 2023.

With this move, everything on Sky Cable’s side will remain intact: their internet and cable services will continue operations as stated in their press release. In short, everything will remain status quo, so current Sky Cable subscribers have nothing to worry about for the meantime.

With this development, it remains to be seen what will happen to ANC Prestige, which is ABS-CBN News Channel’s paid YouTube service that was launched in anticipation of the termination of Sky Cable’s paid cable operations.

No reason was given by ABS-CBN and PLDT mutually agreed to not proceed with the sale of Sky Cable. Before sale talks, Cignal Cable invested Php 2.862 billion in Sky Cable on August 10, 2022, where the said investment aims to “allow Sky Cable to expand significantly its coverage, offerings, and services, [and] also enable Sky Cable to expand its broadband reach.”
