Twitter Detects Screenshots, Urges Users to Share Tweet Instead

With social media app updates here and there, Twitter once again seems to be introducing another slight change in their platform. Twitter users have been noticing the social media app nudging them to share a tweet instead of simply taking a screenshot.

That’s right, Twitter can now detect whenever users take a screenshot. Once you take a screencap on Twitter, a pop-up will appear with options of ‘copy link’ and ‘share tweet’. This has caught the attention of app researcher Jane Manchun Wong and several Twitter users.

Twitter spokesperson Shaokyi Amdo has confirmed that this new pop-up feature is a test that appears in a small group of iOS users.

This move will encourage more user traffic to Twitter, instead of tweet screenshots ending up on other social media apps when shared by users resulting to a loss in engagement to the actual source, Twitter.

Recently, Twitter has been unveiling new features left and right. The latest of which is the  Twitter Mixed Media  where users can showcase their creativity and passion. With this feature, users can upload pictures, videos, and GIFs – all in the same Tweet. No more need to create a thread.
