Yay Android: You’ll Be Able To Fingerprint Lock Chrome Incognito Tabs

There are times when we have questionable ideas in our minds. We’re only human after all. In shame, we open up an Incognito tab on Chrome and do the dirty work, away from prying eyes with no traces to be found after the session. However, the worry still remains that if we want to keep these tabs on our phones, we must never lend our devices to friends and family – god forbid granny accidentally opens the app and loses all faith in her grandchild. This issue might be no more though: Android users will be able to secure their Chrome Incognito tabs with fingerprint authentication.

A report by 9To5Google finds that this feature is still experimental but is bound to appear in the Settings window of Android Chrome very soon. It’s apparently called “Lock Incognito Tabs when you Leave Chrome.” Exiting the app and returning opens a window with the button “Unlock Incognito,” which triggers a fingerprint symbol to “Verify It’s You” should the user continue. If your fingerprints are always sweaty, then using a PIN code is also an option to be rolled out alongside this revolutionary new feature.

It’s not officially out yet, but the report claims that the feature has finally been found to be stable. As such, copy-pasting “chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android” will automatically trigger the feature for your device. This holds true for all experimental features of Google Chrome for Android. For those curious about the various flags available, just type chrome://flags and you should find some pretty interesting ones.
