DOTA Coming to Netflix with Dragon’s Blood: Here’s When it will Premiere

Beyond being the top game for multi-million eSports tournament The International, DoTA (Defense of the Ancients) is expanding its lore with an upcoming Netflix animated TV series called DoTA: Dragon’s Blood. This is the first time the hit MoBA game is getting its own TV series, and fans of DoTA 2 are definitely excited for this.

Said to be based on DoTA 2, Netflix describes the plot of DoTA: Dragon’s Blood as a fantasy series revolving on Dragon Knight Davion. Check out the synopsis below:

The upcoming fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.

To hype up the release of DoTA: Dragon’s Blood, NetFlix will be releasing a teaser trailer on February 19 and the main trailer on March 2 before the official series premiere on March 25.

The series will have eight episodes in total, and will be produced by Ashley Edward Miller, who is best known for his works in X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Black Sails. If those shoes ring a bell, that should set your expectations with DoTA: Dragon’s Blood. Studio MIR—known for The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender—will be taking care of animation duties.

The idea of turning a hit MOBA game into an animated TV series is very interesting, as this is the first time such was done. Prior to that, most TV series that are based on video games focused on mostly arcade games like Pac-Man, Super Mario, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat. On top of that, DoTA: Dragon’s Blood marks the first time Valve Corporation ventures into animated TV series shows.
