The ROG Ally X Lasts Longer and Now Comes in Black

Ahead of COMPUTEX 2024, ASUS has formally unveiled the follow-up to their first gaming handheld with the ROG Ally X. Despite looking similar to the original Ally, the Ally X now comes in black–and gets a few key upgrades from the inside.

The biggest uprgrade on the Ally X is the battery, where ASUS manage to increase the capacity to 80wHr, which is double of what the OG Ally has to offer. This translates to longer playing time with the Ally X. You also get double the maximum storage at 1TB (which is upgradable) and more RAM at 24GB (not to mention the faster variety at 7500mhz)–and ASUS was able to pull it off while only being 11.5% heavier than the OG Ally.

Thermal management has also improved: ASUS said that the fans on the Ally X has around 10% better airflow while being physically smaller and lighter. As for connectivity, the XG Mobile port is replaced with a more universal USB 4.0 port.

Because of the added weight, ASUS had to retool the ergonomics of the Ally X to make it more comfortable to use even for long gaming sessions–and that’s necessary especially with the longer battery life it offers compared to the original Ally. The revamped ergonomics include smaller M-keys at the back of the Ally X for less accidental touches and better reach for both the joysticks and the side triggers. The directional pad has better precision, and the joysticks have an updated durability of 5 million cycles.

Like the OG Ally, the Ally X comes with a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and a 120hz Full HD display. You also get Windows 11 out of the box, allowing you to install games from different platforms.

The ROG Ally X is priced at $799(~Php 47k). Expect ASUS to reveal local pricing and availability of the ROG Ally X soon.
