Aside from the Pixel 8 Pro reportedly getting a built-in thermometer– which we still don’t know why Google plans to include the said feature, Android Authority got the scoop on what might be the camera setup of both the vanilla and Pro versions of the Pixel 8.
Aside from getting details about the thermometer module of the Pixel 8 Pro, its main camera will reportedly use an ISOCELL GN2 sensor–which is yet to be launched and will succeed the current ISOCELL GN1. According to Android Authority, the ISOCELL GN2 is said to capture 35% more light than its predecessor due to the sensor being physically larger.
The new sensor is said to support 8K video, which means that the Pixel 8 Pro might be capable of shooting 8K30 footage. However, 8K video on a Pixel phone remains to be seen, as the current Pixel phones do run hot when shooting 4K60 video.
Rounding up the triple rear camera setup of the Pixel 8 Pro is a high-resolution 64-megapixel IMX787 sensor for the ultra-wide camera–which was first found on the Pixel 7a–and a 48-megapixel ISOCELL GM5 telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
As for the vanilla Pixel 8, it will stick to a dual-rear camera setup where you have the same ISOCELL GN2 sensor for the main camera–while the ultra-wide camera will get a modest upgrade: it’s still the same IMX386 sensor, but the FOV is slightly wider at 0.55x (vs 0.67x on the Pixel 7).
