Globe is dead serious in hunting down sellers of any illegal Globe-at-Home modem rebranded as DITO modems. Recently, Globe and PNP seized a unit of Globe At Home Tozed S10G modem rebranded with DITO stickers during a sting operation in Pala-Pala, Brgy. Sampaloc Dasmarinas Cavite.

According to the police report, the suspect, whose identity is a certain Marlou de Paz, is under investigation for violating RA 8484, or the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998. The said law makes anyone liable for “producing, using, trafficking in one or more counterfeit access devices”, which is the case for those selling Globe modems disguised as DITO modems.

What aggravated de Paz’s case is that he stated that any SIM can be used for the modem to function–despite DITO stating that they do not have any official modem as of the moment.

In addition to that, Globe stated that they are the only authorized distributor of the Tozed S10G in the Philippines, and that those who sell the modem as DITO-branded ones are considered illegal.

In a statement, Globe said that it is “taking the necessary steps in ensuring that its customers are well-protected from illegal activities concerning its products and devices” and that it is highly encouraging everyone to report any suspicious activities involving its modems.

In a previous statement, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano said that any “unauthorized use of the DITO branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for intellectual property infringement.”
