It integrates smoothly with Google’s Assistant

Google is bringing its AI smarts to your smartphone’s camera. At Google I/O 2017, CEO Sundar Pichai has officially announced that their Assistant, that AI-powered virtual assistant that’s present in Android devices, will now be able to recognize whatever your phone’s lens is pointed at. Visiting a foreign restaurant and want to see what’s on the menu? Just point the camera at the menu, start up Assistant and it’ll translate the menu, as well as give you photos of whatever’s on the menu.

Point it at a marquee for a show, and it’ll be able to give you show times, dates, and even give you a short sound clip of the band you want to see. Point it at a restaurant, and it’ll give you reviews for said restaurant.

Powering the tech is Google’s new Lens technology, which uses the same machine learning tech that the company uses with Google Assistant.
