MRT-3 Wagons Now Equipped with New Air Conditioning Units

Another piece of good news for commuters here in the Metro: the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has recently completed the installation of new air conditioning units in all wagons of the MRT-3.

In a recent post on the official DOTr MRT-3 Facebook Page, the agency has announced that all 72 Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) or wagons of the MRT-3 are now equipped with new air conditioning units (ACUs). Included in these 72 Light Rail Vehicles are also 20 newly overhauled wagons transversing the main lines.

In total, 216 new air conditioning units have been installed with each wagon having 3 ACUs each to ensure the comfort of commuters through a continuous flow of cool air in the trains.

Of the 216 ACUs, 120 of these were completed and installed by MRT-3 maintenance provider Sumitomo-MHI-TESP. The last of which was actually completely installed last January in an overhauled wagon.

The installation of new air conditioning units in the wagons of the MRT-3 is part of the MRT-3 comprehensive rehabilitation project under the supervision and direction of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Apart from new air conditioning units, the MRT-3 has also undergone preventive maintenance just yesterday. Staff checked fire detection and alarm systems of the whole MRT-3 line to guarantee that all components are in good condition to avoid fire-related accidents.

MRT-3 staff ensured that there were no problems with the smoke and heat detectors, control panels, alarm bells, manual pull station, and all other components of the fire detection and alarm system. The system gives early warnings whenever smoke or fire is present in any area.

The preventive maintenance of all facilities and security and safety systems of the MRT-3 is part of the mandate of the rail lines to give safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation to Filipino commuters.

All these improvements and works that the government has worked on would hopefully benefit our fellow countrymen who use the MRT-3 on a daily basis. Let us wait and hope that there are more things that the government may have in store for the progress of our country.
