The “Unlaunched” RTX 4080 Returns As The RTX 4070 Ti

Remember when NVIDIAunlaunched” the 12GB RTX 4080 a few months ago? The card that received quite a bit of flak from users as well as the press for pricing and the confusion of having two RTX 4080s in their lineup with different specs? Well, that card is back, and it now bears a new name in the form of the RTX 4070 Ti.

As a quick refresher, the RTX 4070 Ti has 7,680 CUDA cores, a 2.61GHz boost clock, and 12GB of memory, and NVIDIA claims that the 4070 Ti is faster than their previous generation flagship, the RTX 3090 Ti by as much as 3.5 times in Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS 3 enabled and ray tracing overdrive mode is on.

While the RTX 4090 and 4080 are 4K powerhouses, NVIDIA is positioning the RTX 4070 Ti as a 1440P wonder, meant as a card for people who game at that resolution that want performance beyond 120FPS with the highest graphic settings.

NVIDIA’s performance claims should be taken with a grain of salt, but if they are true, the company’s DLSS 3.0 tech will likely be the main reason for it. And thanks to the card’s more palatable $799 (Php 44.6K) MSRP, this might just be the card that mid-range has been looking for, though that price is still way too high for a supposedly “mid-range” card.

Interestingly enough, NVIDIA won’t be providing Founder’s Edition cards, which means if you want one, you’ll have to go with AIB partners like ASUS, PNY, MSI, PALIT, etc. That alone makes us a little skeptical of the card’s claimed $799 (Php 44.6K) MSRP, as AIB partner cards typically cost a lot more than NVIDIA’s FE models that roll out with every launch. The RTX 4070 Ti will be available on Jan. 5 in the US.
