US Gov’t To Lift Some Sanctions Imposed On Huawei: Hello Google?

Whenever we use Huawei devices nowadays, the main gripe has always been the lack of access to Google and its services. This quite obviously includes the very best of Android, which can be quite frustrating at times. This has become a real shame as the smartphone manufacturer has released some admittedly excellent smart devices within the past few years, only to be hampered by the inconvenient roundabout solutions to the software issues. Now, it appears that the US is ready to lift some sanctions on Huawei to even the playing field.

A report by Bloomberg has stated that the United States has now reached an agreement that allows “low-level technologies” of theirs to enter foreign soil, as long as they have the proper documentation and credentials. This will be handled by the US Commerce Department alongside some other governmental agencies, to ensure that even restricted companies have access. However, companies must comply with standards set by the aforementioned departments in order to gain access to these technological innovations.

Alan Estevez, the Commerce undersecretary for industry and security, has been quoted to say: “US stakeholders need to be fully engaged in international standards organizations, particularly where the critical but sometimes invisible standards that they set have important national security as well as commercial implications.” He then continues that the new rule will help advance “US leadership in these critical bodies.”

The US is reportedly growing a little wary about the technological progress China has been making ever since its eviction from US development in 2019. As a globally-recognized superpower, China has rapidly been gaining influence and traction in the global scene of technology. The US deems this influence a “national security threat,” especially if their advancements surpass their own. As such, this move is to curb that progress and dissuade innovation by providing others with a little bit of what they need and then restricting use.

With this move, the United States aims to put its foot down and assert its dominance as the symbol of the technological cutting-edge.

Should US sanctions be lifted on Huawei, we may finally have access to Google Mobile Services on their mobile devices once again. That will conclusively end the days of dealing with Petal Search and the Huawei AppGallery, both deemed unusable in their early days.

Another considerable factor is the inclusion of 5G on Huawei devices. Due to limitations, they’ve had to tough it out with LTE for now. Whether or not you believe that 5G offers a considerable difference over LTE speeds, this is a welcome addition for most consumers.

We can infer that Huawei is going to continue with its progress either way, whether US sanctions are lifted or not. They’ve already gone quite a long way in terms of innovation and have likely spent a significant amount of money on research and development. This act by the US can be perceived as a symbol of success for the brand, as they’ve forced a giant to deal its hand.

We’ll have to wait and see what technological advancements the US is referring to with its sanctions and Huawei. Regardless, we remain optimistic that this will help propel the field of tech forward with more competition.
