Streaming is the future!

Let’s face it – Filipinos aren’t fans of paying for content. Anything from TV shows, movies and video games, we usually try to get it free from everyone’s favorite torrent site. But even though many of us just download Drake’s newest album from torrent sites, there’s an easier (and legal) way of enjoying music online – Spinnr.

What is it?

Spinnr is a music streaming service powered by Smart. With Spinnr, you’re given access to literally thousands and thousands of songs and albums, made possible by Smart’s partnership with big name radio labels like Universal Music/MCA and Sony Music. The service is available to both PC and mobile devices (Android and iOS), and allows you to enjoy music as long as you have a data connection available. Here’s a neat fact – Spinnr is iTune’s affiliate in the Philippines.

How much does it cost?

Spinnr gives you all the content that we mentioned for an extremely low price of 2.50 pesos per day. That’s just amazing value if you think about it – for the cost of literally less than three candies, you get access to a large chunk of popular music today, in almost all genres of music. What’s nice about Spinnr is that you can tailor your subscription service depending on your needs. There’s no risk involved if you want to take it out for a spin before actually subscribing to the service – there’s the daily Php 2.50 cost, or you can go with their 7-day pass (Php 7) or 15 day pass at Php 15. A one month pass just costs Php 29! You don’t need to worry about data either – your subscription to Spinnr means that you won’t be charged additional data costs when you start listening to your tracks.

Spinnr_03Cool. How do I pay?

There are multiple payment gateways for Spinnr, but the most simple way to pay is via cellphone load if you’re a prepaid user, or charging it to your monthly bill if you’re a post paid subscriber. No need for a credit card! Spinnr allows Smart, Smart Bro, Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular to pay for their subscription service quick and easy.

How many devices does it support?

As many as you have. Spinnr has a mobile app for both Android and Apple devices, and you can access the service on your PC by going through the official site, spinnr.ph.

Any other cool features that we should know about?

Aside from browsing through their expansive music collection when you’re online, you can also opt to turn on the offline mode of the app that allows you to continously enjoy your playlists even without data. And since it’s a cloud based service, storage is not a problem – even if your smartphone has a measly 4GB of memory and you haven’t gotten around to buying an SD card, your music can easily be retrieved when you turn on your data connection or connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot. If you want to own a track for good, you can always opt to buy it and charge it via the same charging methods that we talked about earlier.

Music streaming is the way of the future. While it’s not exactly free, Spinnr is pretty close to it. Starting at Php 2.50 for a day pass, it allows Filipinos to go legit and opens the gateway to thousands of songs literally right in your fingertips using your smartphone.
