Lenovo thinks its Possible to Combine both Windows and Android

One of the key aspects of Windows 11 is its integration with Android, where you can do things like run Android apps on Windows or seamless link your Android phone to your Windows laptop. But what if there was a device that combines BOTH Windows and Android? Lenovo has made this crazy idea a reality with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid.

The party trick of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 is that it has both an Android tablet that docks in a base that has the components needed to run Windows. You’re getting serious hardware on this: the laptop base has a Core Ultra 7 processor with 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, and a 75wHr battery, while the tablet head rocks a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor that’s paired with 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a 38wHr battery.

The tablet head has dual rear cameras (13-megapixel and 5-megapixel), a quad speaker system, and a Full HD front camera with an IR sensor, while the laptop base has two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, stereo speakers, and a fingerprint scanner.

The tablet head essentially works two ways: when detached from its base, it functions as a full-fledged Android 13 tablet–complete with stylus support. Once you attach it to the laptop base, the 14-inch 2.8K OLED panel transforms into a display to make the system a Windows 11 laptop.

Compared to Lenovo’s previous experimental laptops like the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3’s built-in secondary display and the OG ThinkBook Plus’ E-ink external display, the Gen 5’s Windows-Android hybrid design is the brand’s most ambitious (and practical) experiment to date.

We are excited for this approach, as the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 will redefine 2-in-1 devices. The challenge with this approach, however, is if Lenovo can make the Windows-Android integration as seamless has how Apple does it with its MacOS and iOS devices.
