The Wild and Weird Tech of CES 2024

As we wrap upCES 2024, we came across a fair share of wild and weird tech that made us really curious. From invisible TVs to bringing back the Blackberry form factor, here are UnboxPH’s picks for the wild and weird tech at CES 2024:

UnboxPH’s Wild and Weird Tech of CES 2024

  • Wild: ZenBook Duo 2024
  • Weird: Skyted Mask
  • Wild: MSI Claw
  • Weird: Infinix E-Color Shift
  • Wild: LG Transparent OLED TV
  • Weird: Clicks iPhone Keyboard Case

Wild: ZenBook Duo 2024

While ASUS is not the first one to introduce a laptop with two full-sized displays, the ZenBook Duo 2024 is definitely more. ASUS managed to put the usual set of ports you’d find on a normal laptop with the ZenBook Duo 2024, and you can even equip it with a Core Ultra 9 processor as well. You get all of those features while keeping the overall laptop slim and light (despite having a removable keyboard!) and still packing a battery large enough to power two gorgeous OLED displays.

Weird: Skyted Mask

While we’re living in a post-pandemic era where wearing masks are optional, Sktyed thinks that we need noise-cancelling masks especially when we talk in public places. The Kickstarter-backed product aims to reduce noise by 25 decibels, so that you can sing your favorite tunes in public without annoying the people around you–or go rage mode on a restaurant you hate without interrupting other customers. It’s also a high-tech product as it utilizes tech from jet engines–but it remains to be seen if this a product people will actually need once Skyted will deliver its first batch of masks this year.

Wild: MSI Claw

ASUS and Lenovo are not the only ones who have gaming handhelds, as MSI’s Claw aims to be another option worth looking at. Despite having a form factor similar to the ROG Ally, the main difference with the Claw is its use of an Intel Core Ultra processor instead of a Ryzen Z1 Extreme. It’s interesting to see how MSI’s approach to the Claw will make it a good alternative to the ROG Ally and Legion Go considering all three gaming handhelds have roughly the same price. Again, we love competition and MSI is definitely heating up the gaming handheld scene with the Claw.

Weird: Infinix E-Color Shift

We think of Infinix’s E-Color Shift tech as a good kind of weird, since it does a great job in making phones look less boring. What makes this unusual innovation very intriguing is that you can practically change your phone’s back panel skin at will and anytime–without adding any stick ons or add a case that will bulk up the phone. It’s also intriguing since the color changing aspect of the tech does not consume power, so we expect Infinix phones that have this unique feature will still maintain an otherwise excellent battery life.

Wild: LG Transparent OLED TV

A TV that can disappear when not in use? That’s the main point of LG’s Signature OLED T, which is a huge 77-inch OLED TV that has a panel that can be either transparent or opaque depending on how you want to use it. This makes the Signature OLED T a very interesting piece of tech that can be showcased as an art piece for any home. It’s definitely the ultimate TV flex for 2024–if you have deep pockets for it once LG makes it available to the public sometime this year.

Weird: Clicks iPhone Keyboard Case

It has been years since the world has moved on from miniature keyboards on phones, yet the Mr. Mobile-backed Clicks thinks we need them–at least for iPhone users. The idea is simple: add a case to your iPhone for protection while giving users a touch of nostalgia with a physical keyboard that will remind them of Blackberry’s glory days. We’re curious at its practicality, as the case will essentially make the iPhone longer than usual. We’re even curious if people will still love typing on actual keys in 2024 where everyone is used to typing on their phone’s screens.

That rounds up our picks for the wild and weird tech at CES 2024. Which of our picks excites you the most?
