An EDC Essential?

Powerbanks are a little pedestrian nowadays; though they’ve gone from being something that’s nice to have, to an essential for one’s everyday carry (EDC). When you buy a powerbank, there’s usually two things to consider: battery capacity and aesthetics. ASUS recently outed the newest and, perhaps, the sleekest member of their ZenPower line of powerbanks — the ZenPower Slim. Should it make it to your EDC? Let’s find out.

The ZenPower Slim measures in at just 115mm x 71mm x 8.3mm and weighs in a 84 grams; that’s just about as thick as 4 one peso coins stacked on top of each other,  about half the weight of the Zenfone 3 Zoom, and can definitely fit snugly in your back pocket with your wallet. Ladies, if you need a powerbank to fit that tiny, little clutch.. This may be the one.

Sadly, you can’t have your cake and eat it too. To be able to trim down the dimensions of the ZenPower Slim, you’re sacrificing more than ? of battery capacity were used to seeing from other powerbanks in the ZenPower line. At 3000mAh though, that’s still enough juice to give your device a pick me up if it’s a little low in the middle of the day.

It may not have as much juice as the other powerbanks we’re accustomed to seeing from the Taiwanese brand, but it more than makes up for it in portability. Let’s face it, there are times where you just want to leave the bag at home and head out into the world with just your wallet and phone, or just want to keep things light.

Since it has a limited capacity, you definitely want to charge this powerbank when you get home and it’ll take a little over two hours to top up the ASUS ZenPower Slim. Speaking of getting home, if you find yourself fumbling with your house keys cause it’s dark out, there’s a tiny LED flashlight on the ZenPower Slim as well.

A Practice In Compromise

Let’s not beat around the bush here. If you need or want a powerbank with a little more oomph, then you should definitely get one of its bigger brothers: the Asus ZenPower, ZenPower Pro, or ZenPower Ultra. But, if you need something with just enough juice to get your phone through that mid-day hump and want something slimmer and lighter to take around with you, then look no further than the Asus ZenPower Slim.
