It says it’s responding to customer demand
One of the things you can expect from phones offered by Chinese companies is the inclusion of their own UI based on their interpretation of Android. Xiaomi has MIUI, OPPO has ColorOS, Vivo has FunTouch OS, Huawei has EMUI and so on and so forth. Lenovo used to have Vibe Pure UI. We say used to, because the company is dropping Vibe Pure in favor of a more stock version of Android.
This was confirmed by the head of product marketing at Lenovo, Anuj Sharma who added that the move was because of customer demand, though Lenovo will be adding a bunch of their software magic into the mix like their Dolby Atmos tech into the devices when they ship. Simplifying the OS in the phones will also make it easier for Lenovo to update the phones to the latest version of Android. Coincidentally, all of Lenovo’s K-series of devices launched in 2017 will be updated to Android O as soon as its pushed by Google.
