5 Things We Like About the Huawei Nova 2i

What Makes the Huawei Nova 2i Worthy of All the Attention?

One of the mid-range phones on everyone’s lips nowadays is the recently released Huawei Nova 2i. While it certainly isn’t a perfect phone, Huawei has given us plenty of reasons to make their contender for the tough price segment get all the attention that it’s getting. So, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages…

Here are the 5 things we like about the Huawei Nova 2i

Good Processing Package

The Huawei Nova 2i sports the company’s Kirin 659 SoC with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. The processing package handled day-to-day tasks smoothly during our duration with the device and remained snappy after almost a month of using it. Yes, heavy mobile gamers may be a little irked by its GPU performance, but I’ve clocked in some reasonable time playing the new “it” MOBA in the market, Arena of Valor, without any trouble. For us, they’ve hit a good sweet spot here.

Great 18:9 Display

In a world where smartphones are getting displays with an 18:9 aspect ratio, we never would have thought we’d see these panels on mid-range phones but here we are and the Nova 2i has one of the best we’ve seen in its category. Yes, most apps don’t support the newfangled aspect ratio but the added real estate for Facebook and web browsing is greatly appreciated. The panel itself may not have the same qualities of an AMOLED display, but you’ve still got a good amount of color and contrast on this device.

Four Cameras, Two Thumbs Up

John called it in his full review of the device and I’ll have to agree with him on this one. The Huawei Nova2i has four of the best cameras we’ve seen in this price segment. It sounded gimmicky at first but the added depth information those extra 2-megapixel cameras on both the front and rear shooters definitely make a difference and give us more options to explore. Yes, the bokeh effects could use a little work, but overall the quad cameras on the Nova 2i get two thumbs up.

Full Metal Build

We were getting to a point where having a full metal build was getting a little passe in mid-range phones, but we’ve seen other brands switching from metal to polycarbonate plastic. This gave us a better appreciation for what Huawei gave us with the Nova 2i. The phone also fits nicely in the hand despite the increase in screen size with the buttons and fingerprint scanner at easy to reach locations as well. If only it didn’t have such a huge camera bump though.

Value for Money

At the end of the day, this is what we’re all looking for whether it’s a flagship phone, a phone in the mid-range segment, or a budget entry — Is the phone worth its asking price? The Huawei Nova 2i is definitely a phone that should be in the top 3 on your list of phones to consider if you have about Php 15,000 to spend. It has got an extremely aggressive price tag at Php 14,990 and for all the device has to offer it is one of the best mid-rangers out there.
