Apple Watch Users Can Say Goodbye To Facebook Messenger

Apple Watch Users Can Say Goodbye To Facebook Messenger

Those who keep their wearables on them 24/7 might take notice of this breaking news: The Facebook Messenger application will no longer be available on all Apple Watch models. We know for a fact that quite a lot of people rely on these features to keep them from having to whip out their smartphones in unsafe locations. Before you go all up in arms about this, here are the details about this development.

Based on the notification spreading on social media, Apple Watch users will no longer have the Facebook Messenger app available on their devices. However, notifications from the messaging services originating from one’s smartphone will still be carried over and displayed on these wearables.

This change merely removes the ability to respond from one’s smartwatch. As such, the user will have to reply on either a smartphone, laptop, PC, or any other FB Messenger-supported device. This isn’t the first app that’s gone down for the watch: Twitter, Uber, Instagram, and Slack are among the others that have been taken down as well.

The current hypothesis surrounding this sudden change is the fact that people don’t really use their smartwatches in the same way they use their phones. It’s still much easier to formulate complex tasks on an inevitably-larger screen than work with the methods provided by these wearables. As such, Apple is moving its focus with the Watch away from apps like Facebook Messenger, to things you can ONLY do on a wearable.

Unique functions that don’t seem like second-rate ideas should incentivize users to make the switch to a wearable device. What do you think of this?
