Upon the recommendation of the Department of Finance, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) will now auction every smuggled car that comes into their possession, instead of destroying them into pieces.
BOC said on Tuesday, July 12, that it will conduct an online bidding of 20 confiscated illegal luxury car units amounting to almost P100 million.
In addition, BOC will also auction other illegal cargo, machineries, and commodities.
According to BOC Deputy Commissioner Atty. Edward Buco, the public auction will be “transparent.”
The local agency has joined forces with the Bureau of Treasury, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and the Landbank of the Philippines to ensure the transparency of the bidding.
In line with this, Atty. Edward Buco encouraged private citizens to join the public auction to help the agency dispose the seized items in its possession.
The bidding schedules are posted on the official website and social media pages of BOC.
This is not the first time for the BOC to sell the seized cars in its possession. Last December, BOC held an online auction for 5 luxury vehicles :
- 2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia: Php 23,230,000
- 2011 Mercedes-Benz E220: Php 1,490,000
- 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 Php 1,320,000
- 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK350: Php 1,250,000
- 2001 Porsche Boxster: Php 1,790,000
