The Galaxy A55 Cameras are Slightly Better than the A54

The Galaxy A55 just launched a few days ago, and while it’s more affordable than its predecessor at launch, people have mixed opinions about its cameras. We can’t blame them, since the Galaxy A55 uses the same set of cameras found on the Galaxy A54. To recap, the camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

While the Galaxy A55 gets a few new software tricks thanks to the added muscle provided by the Exynos 1480, does this really translate to better camera performance? DxOMark thinks that’s the case, as the Galaxy A55 is a point higher than the Galaxy A54.

Looking through DxOMark’s rankings, this places the Galaxy A55 within the same league as the Xiaomi 11T Pro and the ROG Phone 7.

What is DxOMark’s verdict on the Galaxy A55 then? while they do acknowledge that camera performance is the same as the Galaxy A54 since they used the same hardware, the former does have a wider dynamic range in photos. However, this wider dynamic range comes at a cost of higher noise levels, especially in the dark areas of the photo. In general, the Galaxy A55 introduces incremental improvements over its predecessor. However, we expect the Galaxy A55’s software to improve as Samsung will roll out updates along the way.
