ON THE WAY: Google Pixel 7a Leaked With 90Hz Display

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Google Pixel 7 lineup was a success in all senses of the word. These devices won quite a lot of awards in 2022. However, despite being relative bargains, some may still find the price tag a little hard to stomach. That’s where the Pixel A series comes in. It’s meant to bring in the essentials of what made the original devices so popular, at a later time and at a decreased price point. Here’s what we know so far on the upcoming Google Pixel 7a.

According to a leaked roadmap over at Google, the Pixel 7a should come in within the first quarter of 2023. Using the Pixel 6a’s formula as a basis, we can infer that it’s coming with the same second-generation Tensor chipset that came in the Pixel 7 lineup. It’s also likely to carry the same 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED HDR display seen on its predecessor, except this time it’s capable of a 90Hz refresh rate.

What’s impressive about the Pixel 6A is that it won MKBHD’s best smartphone camera of the year award just recently. It managed to beat out goliaths like the Apple iPhone 14 series, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and even the Pixel 7 lineup. That’s genuinely astounding. For those curious, the methodology was a blind camera test with over 21 million votes from 600,000+ users in three days of voting. That’s not a small number in the least. Knowing this, we expect minimal improvements to its 12.2-megapixel main sensor and 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter.

The leaks came courtesy of a Vietnamese user who posted in a private Facebook page. Here we can see that the 90Hz can be toggled, and the bezels on the front display have been maintained to some extent. Meanwhile, the rear design is aptly updated to mimic the current-generation aesthetic philosophy instead of the last.

An announcement is expected to be made within the month of January. For those who want to get the full Pixel experience at a fraction of the price, you’ll be pleased to know that this Google Pixel 7a is allegedly slated to hit the market at just $449 USD. That puts it squarely within midrange territory.

Let’s wait and see. Until then, it’s time to ready your wallets.
