Samsung Galaxy Phones To Have A Self-Repair Kit Program Soon

Samsung has collaborated with renowned website iFixit on a self-repair kit system for its phones that will allow owners to do fixes themselves. This comes after the South Korean tech giant makes considerable strides to increase the life of its devices, such as promising more software updates than ever before. While it looks really good on paper, how does this all work?

According to an official statement via Samsung Newsroom, device owners will be able to replace display assemblies, back glass, and charging ports – often things that go awry after a few drops or so. These are common problems that can be handled at home and don’t require master technician levels of expertise. To make things simple, detailed guides and visual diagrams will be provided for the ultimate seamless experience. They’ve partnered with iFixit in order to use their experience to make it as painless as possible for non-tech experts.

As of now, these are the only parts that fall under the program. There was mention of a plan to expand this list though so that a wider array of repairs can be performed from the convenience of one’s home. Covered Samsung Galaxy phones in the repair kit program are initially the S20 and S21 line of products, with the Tab S7 seeing support this summer. It can be said that they’re still experimenting with these devices before they move into their other lineups.

Those who don’t want to do the tinkering still have conventional means made available to them. Authorized in-person same-day service stations are aplenty worldwide, while a “We Come To You” service is self-explanatory. There is also an abundance of Independent Service Partners all over the globe with the experience, credentials, and proper certification to fix Samsung devices.

Ramon Gregory, Senior Vice President of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America, had this to say: “At Samsung, we’re creating more ways for consumers to extend the lifespan of our products with premium care experiences. Availability of self-repair will provide our consumers the convenience and more options for sustainable solutions.”

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the implementation of a program like this though. Apple has done something similar fairly recently, while OPPO has taken a radically different approach for minimal contact altogether.
