As part of its efforts to support young Filipino STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students, Samsung is partnering with the Department of Education for bringing its Solve for Tomorrow program to the Philippines.
Since its launch in 2010, Solve for Tomorrow aims to empower STEM students to share and realize their ideas, turning them into practical solutions that can make an impact on the local community. As of 2020, Samsung Solve for tomorrow has benefitted over 2 million people and has expanded to 50 other countries, with the Philippines being the latest addition this 2023.
In a press conference held at Grand Hyatt, Samsung Philippines President Minsu Chu said that they are committed to giving back to the community through STEM education. “Every young person deserves to unlock his or her full potential, regardless of circumstances.”
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow program is open to Grade 8-12 students that are under the STEM track. Each team should consist of a teacher and up to 8 students, and they can submit their application through Samsung’s official website. Schools may enter as many teams or individuals.
For those applying, they will need to submit a written plan (up to 1000 words) about the issue or problem they wish to solve, a poster/diagram of their plan, a PowerPoint presentation (up to 10 slides), or a 5-minute video presentation.
The program will run in 3 stages from May to December, with the preliminary rounds happening in June. The semi-final rounds will happen in October, where shortlisted teams will join workshops and have mentorship in order to build a prototype of their solution.
Only 5 teams will advance to the finals in December, where they will present their prototypes to a panel of judges. Three teams will be announced as winners, where Php 1.5 million worth of Samsung products are at stake for the students, teachers, and their schools.
