Spotify Might Offer Music Videos Soon

While we’re still waiting for Spotify to officially launch their Platinum HiFi tier with lossless audio streaming, there are also new reports that Spotify might offer full-length music videos to their platform—similar to what Apple Music and YouTube Music has to offer.

Bloomberg reports that Spotify has begun talking to potential partners according to people familiar with the plan—though Spotify refused to comment on their plans.

While Spotify does offer looping GIF videos for select artists, along with “clips” that artists use to talk about their music, having full-length music videos will help Spotify expand its platform beyond music.

This plan is also part of Spotify’s way to stay competitive not just with YouTube and Apple Music, but also with TikTok—since most Gen Zers use the platform. Speaking of TikTok, they do have a music streaming service called Resso that operates in select countries as a competitor to Spotify. Like Spotify, TikTok claims that Resso has been an important diascovery platform for musicians.

Prior to this development, Spotify did have plans of creating its own TV content in the platform with reported talks with Paramount Global, Vice Media, and Comedy Central—though those deals did not push thru.
