The Cherry Mobile Apollo X was announced and launched October last year. The device immediately got a lot of buzz because it was one of the first quad-core smartphones with 1GB RAM and a 13MP shooter with a price tag of just Php5,999.
Last week we received an e-mail in our Inbox (naks) from a Cherry Mobile Apollo X user complaining about a “black screen” issue. Basically if you try to open an app the screen just randomly goes black and doesn’t brighten up anymore.
See the video below for an example of how it happens.
We investigated further by asking people in the Cherry Mobile Apollo X Facebook Group asking if they experienced the same thing. Several users also commented saying they had the same problem and they had to find work arounds to get their screens to work properly (using the Screen Dimmer app). Prompted by the confirmations of the issue, we reached out to Cherry Mobile so they could address it.
See below for their official response which we received via e-mail.
Hello Unbox Team,
We are currently checking and testing Cherry Mobile Apollo X units to see the issues forwarded to us. Our technical team is on it and should the issue be experienced once again, Cherry Mobile will release an OTA update to all Apollo X users. For the time being we are treating this as an isolated case.
The good news is that their technical team is already looking into it. It’s not confirmed yet though if it’s a widespread issue. That said if you guys are experiencing the same “black screen” problem, please do leave a comment below and share your experience. Hopefully Cherry Mobile gets to finish their investigation and testing soon so that we can see a resolution! 🙂
Thank you to Cherry Mobile for the quick response and to the Apollo X community for getting in touch with us through our Facebook Inbox. If you guys have any concerns that you want us to check, please do send it over our Facebook Page. Note that we can’t guarantee action on all of your concerns but we will try to help every now and then when we can.
