The official teaser of Deadpool & Wolverine has just been released. The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie features Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the foul-mouthed superhero, teaming up with Hugh Jackman’s iconic Wolverine in a multiverse adventure. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who collaborated with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzy Molyneux-Logelin on the script. Along with the two leads, the film features Morena Baccarin, Jennifer Garner, Matthew Macfadyen, Emma Corrin, and Patrick Stewart. The movie is scheduled to release on July 26 in theaters.
In the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser, Wade Wilson (Deadpool) is celebrating his birthday when agents from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) arrive to arrest him seemingly. The tone changed however when Matthew Macfadyen’s TVA character states that he is “special” and that this is his chance “to be a hero among heroes”.
In true Deadpool fashion, Wade responds about how their cinematic universe is about to change, and that he is the messiah. THE. MARVEL. JESUS.
This likely alludes to the movie being Marvel’s first major project ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, which will introduce the latter’s X-men franchise into the former’s cinematic universe.
Deadpool & Wolverine marks two significant firsts. Firstly, it is Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine after his character’s sendoff in Logan (2017). To date, Jackman has portrayed the Marvel character on film nine times. Secondly, the movie marks the second time that Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have shared the big screen, with their first collaboration being in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, way back in 2009.
Along with the teaser comes the official title card and like the first of surely many, many great posters promoting the show. The two main stars, of course, can’t help but join in and add a little fun with their own takes on it.
Fans of both franchises online are all very excited about the movie based on various posts and uploaded reactions, and speculations abound regarding what its plot will be. There are a lot of theories, with the most popular one being the film will serve as a sendoff to the Fox version of the two iconic characters. Director Shawn Levy stated in an interview that the legacy of the Fox movies that the fans love will still be honored in the film.
