A week after an alleged spec sheet of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 was revealed, Qualcomm decided to go ahead and announce not just a new mid-range processor, but also a new entry-level processor with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1.
While it did not detail their CPUs, Qualcomm promised as much as 35% better GPU performance and 40% better computational performance on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 compared to its predecessor (which we presume is the Snapdragon 695), and its CPU cores max out at 2.2Ghz. As for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, Qualcomm promises 15% better CPU performance and 10% better GPU performance than–presumably–the Snapdragon 480/480+. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1’s CPU cores max out at 2.0Ghz.
One of the key features of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the 12-bit Triple ISP that lets it support up to 200-megapixel cameras and up to 4K HDR video. It also comes with a Snapdragon X62 5G modem and FastConnect 6700 that gives it support for the latest 3GPP Release 16 5G and WiFi 6E connectivity.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, on the other hand, also has a 12-bit Triple ISP but only supports up to 108-megapixel cameras and can only shoot up to Full HD 60FPS video. Like the Snapdragon 480+, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 supports Full HD+ displays at 120hz and comes with an X51 5G modem and FastConnect 6200, but adds support for faster-charging speeds with Quick Charge 4+.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will debut on the IQOO Z6 Lite later this month, while the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will be available to phones in Q1 of 2023.
