We unbox the Infinix Zero 5
The Hong Kong-based company wants to strengthen its presence here in the Philippines with the Zero 5, its latest phablet offering. As a successor to the Zero 4, the Zero 5 has a sleeker design profile while maintaining its phablet status. Other key upgrades in the Zero 5 include a higher RAM, a bigger battery, and a dual rear-camera setup, with one functioning as a telephoto lens.
Though the Zero 5 may feel a bit of a downgrade by using an Helio P25 processor over the Zero 4’s Helio X20 processor, the Zero 5 looks to be a promising offering, given its Php 12,999 price tag (in Lazada) and its dual rear cameras. Here’s a quick look at its specs:

Packaging and contents
The Zero 5 comes with a black and red box, with the Infinix and Zero 5 logos in the front.
At the back of the box, you have a quick overview of its features. Notable features include XCharge quick charging, dual rear cameras, and a 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM configuration.
Upon opening the box, you are greeted by the Zero 5 itself, which is relatively huge, and a few documents.
If there’s one thing that nice with the Zero 5’s packaging, it is how Infinix meticulously packaged the accessories in individual boxes. Speaking of accessories, you have a set of in-ear earphones, a USB-C cable, an XCharge quick charger, a USB-C to MicroUSB adapter, a SIM ejector pin, a cleaning cloth, and a jelly case. On top of that, the Zero 5 comes with a screen protector pre-installed.
Initial impressions: A sleeker phone from Infinix, but has a dated design
Design-wise, the Zero 5 is an improvement over the Zero 4 with its streamlined, camera bump-free aluminum unibody shell. However, you get a 5.98-inch Full HD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is a bit dated considering most brands are shifting to 18:9 displays.
On the back, you have your dual rear cameras on top. There’s no camera bump to be seen here, unlike the ginormous protrusion found on the Zero 4. Instead, you have a faux carbon fiber strip housing the two cameras and the LED flash. Below the camera unit is the fingerprint scanner.
With the Zero 5, you get two separate trays. On the left, you have your tray for the MicroSD card, while on the right, you have your tray for two MicroSIMs.
You have your power and volume controls on the right side of the phone.
At the bottom, you have your loudspeaker, your microphone, a USB-C port, and a headphone jack.
Sporting a MediaTek Helio P25 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, the Zero 5 scored 60356 in AnTuTu on the first boot, placing well within the mid-range segment. The Zero 5 handled multitasking well on our initial use, though there were times that it lagged, but that is because it was installing two major updates.
Those major updates involved adjustments to the Zero 5’s camera performance, specifically with its autofocusing and how it processes photos. Other than that, we did not encounter any hiccups so far with the Zero 5’s XOS Hummingbird Android overlay, which is based on Android Nougat.
