Razer’s Gaming Phone Unveiled Early

Whoopsie

Razer’s first gaming smartphone isn’t scheduled to be announced until 4:00 AM today but the folks at Circuit Breaker have apparently pulled the trigger too early and broken embargo. A one minute video posted on their Facebook page (which has since been deleted) shows the phone in all it’s glory.

Razer Phone specs

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 5.7-inch IGZO 120Hz display
  • 64GB of storage
  • 12-megapixel rear camera with wide angle lens, 12-megapixel rear camera with telephoto lens
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, USB Type-C
  • 4000mAh battery
  • Android OS

The 1-minute video pretty much confirms many of the things that have been leaked previously, which includes the 5.7-inch, 120Hz IGZO display that’s aimed at gamers. The phone has two front-facing speakers with individual amplifiers, as well as two 12-megapixel rear cameras with a wide-angle and telephoto lens.

Inside the phone sits Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor giving it some serious graphical grunt, as well as 8GB of RAM, and 64GB storage. A massive 4000mAh battery sits inside the phone’s chassis, which is made out of aluminum just like Razer’s gaming notebooks.

Price is set at $699 or Php 36K and will be available in the US and Europe this month.

There’s a couple of things missing from Circuit Breaker’s video though. There’s no mention of gaming partnerships or even a killer app that would drive people to buy the phone. As it is, Razer’s phone is just another powerful phone in a sea of powerful phones, and without a killer app or game partnership, there’s really no reason why the gaming faithful would spring for it over the number of other excellent flagship phones already announced this year. We’ll have to wait for the official word in London later today.
