They are optimized for 5G and AI
Samsung continues to take the lead when it comes to memory chips. After unveiling GDDR6 memory chips for graphics cards, the South Korean company introduces a new 8GB LPDDR5 chip made for mobile phones.
The new memory chip is optimized for 5G and AI-powered mobile applications and promise transfer rates of up to 6,400Mbps—50% faster than current LPDDR4X memory chips. Aside from the speed boost, the LPDDR5’s deep sleep mode promises 30% better battery efficiency compared to LPDDR4X.
As of press writing, Samsung has prototype 8GB LPDDR5 memory chip in the works, though the company did not specify when it will enter mass production for it.
