Sony will Still Continue Making Phones, at Least For Now

While Sony does have powerful flagship phones with its Xperia 1 series, it has yet to succeed in matching flagships offered by rivals like Samsung. With Sony pulling out its Xperia phones in the Philippines and several other Asian countries, people have been wondering if Sony will put an end to its phone business just like what LG did back in 2021. The short answer? Sony will still continue making phones, at least for now, as it recently signed a multi-year deal with Qualcomm.

In a short press release, Qualcomm said that their partnership with Sony is aimed towards “work[ing] together on the next generations of premium, high-, and mid-tier smartphones.” That statement most likely refers to Sony’s Xperia 1, Xperia 5, and Xperia 10 lines respectively. “Through this collaboration, both companies aim to push the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile technology, delivering unparalleled user experiences and driving progress in the smartphone industry,” Qualcomm said in their press release.

The press release gave a lot of praise to Sony’s Xperia 1 V, even stating that Sony’s latest flagship phone is well received by its customers–something that we could verify since Xperia phones are no longer sold in the Philippines for several years.

With this press release from Qualcomm, it seems that Sony has yet to wave the white flag and will continue making phones in the next few years. We just hope, however, that they can make their pricing more competitive compared to its rivals.
