Sony still did well as a whole
Sony’s Q2 2017 report is out, and while it managed to rake in a net profit of $1.15 billion, things are not looking well for its mobile division. In their consolidated report, Sony’s mobile division experienced a loss of $21.9 million, compared to its profits of $1.59 million during Q1 2017.

While factors such as “a change in the geographic mix of smartphone sales” and “an increase in the price of key components” caused the losses, we do think that it has to do with the Xperia’s dated OmniBalance design, which we have discussed in a few articles here on the site.

Recently, Sony has confirmed that it will be veering away from OmniBalance with a yet-unknown Mirai design. There’s a possibility for Sony to launch bezel-less phones soon, but that we have to see if a change in design will help them bounce back from losses with its mobile division.
