Samsung Reportedly Working on 400-Megapixel Sensor

With Samsung flexing its muscles with its line of 200-megapixel ISOCELL sensors that are used on a number of phones like the HONOR 90, Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Infinix ZERO ULTRA, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra, new reports state that Samsung is working on four new sensors–one of them being an insane 400-megapixel ISOCELL HU1 sensor.

Before you get too excited about that 400-megapixel sensor, reports state that Samsung has no plans of using it for phones–instead, it is said to be meant for automotive and industrial sensors.

Another new sensor that Samsung is working on is a 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN6, which is said to be Samsung’s answer to Sony’s IMX989 because of its 1-inch size and 1.6um pixel size. Even more interesting is that this particular sensor will be used by manufacturers other than Samsung. There’s also mention of a high-resolution 320-megapixel sensor that is said to be made for the Galaxy S series–though don’t expect to see it until the S26 Ultra at the earliest.

Wrapping up the upcoming sensors Samsung has in store is a new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP7 sensor that’s initially speculated to be used on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and offers improved quality over the HP2 sensor used on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, Samsung might change its mind and just let other brands use the HP7 instead.
