LTFRB Orders Grab To Pay Php 10 Million Fine For “Illegal Charges”

It’ll also have to reimburse passengers as well

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board today has ordered ride-hailing app Grab to pay a Php 10 million fine because of the company’s additional Php 2 a minute charge that they levied to customers without informing commuters.

PBA Representative Jericho Nograles earlier accused grab of illegally charging Php 2 per minute for their rides, on top of the flag down rate of P40 and P10 to P14 charge per kilometer.

Grab for their part has repeatedly said that they have been transparent with their charges, and riders are shown upon booking the “upfront price” or the total fare they pay.

“The point that we like to make here is that the price for Grab is not the pre-agreed per kilometer or per minute but at the end of the trip, the sum of all those factors [are charged] and it’s fixed,” Brian Cu, Grab Philippines head said.

Aside from the fine, Grab Philippines will also have to reimburse its passengers through rebates to make up for the Php 2 per minute surcharge.
