Will BlackBerry recapture lost marketshare with the Z3?

Even though the company has taken some tough losses in the past few years, BlackBerry is still a force to be reckoned with in some parts of the world, especially in Southeast Asia. One of the territories where the company still enjoys a large following is Indonesia, which is one of the reasons why they recently launched their newest budget handset, the Z3, in the country. The Z3 is a product of their partnership with Chinese company Foxconn, and is being sold at IDR 2,199,000, equivalent to Php 8430 pesos.

BlackBerry Z3 specs

  • 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8230 Snapdragon 400 processor
  • Adreno 305 GPU
  • 1.5GB of RAM
  • 5-inch, capacitive touchscreen, 540 x 960 resolution
  • 8GB of storage, expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 5-megapixel rear camera, autofocus, flash
  • 1.1-megapixel front camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, A-GPS
  • 3G, HSPA+
  • 2500mAh battery
  • Blackberry 10.2.1 OS

When the device officially went on sale yesterday for the Indonesian market, BlackBerry said that all three Indonesian carriers have sold all of their pre-order stock. This is good news for the company who has struggled in the market with their previous devices, overtaken by budget Android smartphones in a number of key developing markets like the Philippines. And while the Z3 is an Indonesian exclusive for now, the company has said that it will offer the device to other markets as well, which almost certainly includes the Philippines. Hopefully they stay true to the converted price when the device arrives here.
