Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Plus: First Shots In Taiwan

We take the budget quad-camera smartphone for a spin!

A few months ago we gave you a preview of sorts for the Flare S6 Plus, Cherry Mobile’s budget quad-camera, 18:9 smartphone. Unfortunately for us back then, the software for the phone (especially for its quad-cameras) were not yet up to snuff, which meant we had to wait quite a bit more before we could finally see if those quad-cameras are really worth it.

Fast forward to today. We’ve been using the Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Plus for a few days while going around here in Taiwan, and we’ve put some of the images we’ve captured with the phone’s camera below.

While we’re still finishing our review of the phone, we can offer a few thoughts on the camera. The rear camera is decent enough when you’re using it in places with plenty of light, but the absence of OIS means that shots in low-light will have a fair amount of blurring in it if you don’t have an exceptionally steady hand or have the phone stabilized in a tripod.

You’ll also encounter a fair amount of noise with images taken during the evening, so keep that in mind if you want to shoot at night.

There’s a bokeh mode on the phone but really, it’s not needed, as the phone has a small enough aperture (f/2.0) that it’ll be able to produce bokeh effects on its own without too much problem.

There’s also a digitally-enhanced zoom mode in the camera app, but honestly the image produced is so unacceptable you’ll probably not use it at all.

We’re still reviewing the phone, so check back later on to see what we think of the device this week. Till then you can read our quick review below:
