Huawei is catching up with Apple in terms of global sales
Major brands like Apple and Samsung got competition in terms of global smartphone sales.
In a report by IDC, Apple, which will be launching its 10th generation iPhone, has sold 41 million units, while Huawei has shipped a total of 38.5 million units. Huawei’s line of phones, which include the Mate and P lines, factor in with its overall sales, offering specs comparable to the iPhone at a lower price. Huawei’s partnership with German camera brand Leica sure played a big factor too.

Huawei has 11.3% of the market share, while Apple has 12%. Samsung still leads the pack, having 23% of the market share, with 79.8 million units sold globally.
The same can be said with Chinese brands Oppo and Xiaomi, getting 8.1 and 6.2% of the market share respectively. Like Huawei’s Mate and P series, Oppo and Xiaomi’s offerings have competitive smartphone specs at a lower price in comparison to Apple and Samsung’s flagship phones. However, both brands need to hustle a bit more to go head-to-head with Huawei. Vivo, who has experienced substantial gains in previous years, fell out of the top five brands after Xiaomi has slightly taken the edge in terms of sales.
Should Huawei continue to be innovative with its smartphone offerings (like their Leica collab and the dual lens tech), we would not be surprised if they will be able to overtake Apple in the coming years.
