Is the OnePlus One water resistant too?

We’ve all been waiting for the OnePlus One, that delicious, sub $300 (Php 13164) Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor equipped smartphone to reach the Philippines, and a recent video of it meeting H20 isn’t making it easy. A lucky owner of the new Snapdragon 801 equipped smartphone has decided to see if the phone could withstand being dunked in water. Spoiler alert: the answer is yes.

OnePlus One

  • 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC  processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 16/64GB of storage, non-expandable
  • 5.5-inch full HD IPS display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 13-megapixel camera (Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor), F/2.0 aperture
  • 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera
  • 3G, HSDPA, LTE
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, USB OTG, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS
  • Android 4.4, CyanogenMod 11S
  • 3100mAh battery

While the OnePlus One was only dunked in water as long as 10 seconds, we’re pretty sure that’s enough to kill most smartphones that doesn’t have an IP67 rating. The OnePlus One actually doesn’t have a water resistance rating so we don’t know how long it can stand being dunked in water (unless a brave soul actually sacrifices his unit for science). But because of the YouTube video of the impromptu dunk test, we can rest easier knowing that if we ever managed to get our hands on the OnePlus One, we won’t have to worry about it immediately dying if it ever gets dunked in water.
