After unveiling the desktop-centric Snapdragon 850 at Computex, new reports indicate that Qualcomm and Microsoft are working on a Snapdragon 1000 processor. The new processor is aimed towards 2-in-1 computers and will compete against Intel’s Y and U processor series.
Aside from having a larger chipset size at 20x15mm (vs. the Snapdragon 850’s 12x12mm size), the Snapdragon 1000 will have a maximum power draw of 12W and is expected to use the ARM Cortex-A76 architecture, along with a 7nm manufacturing process.
Aside from being power-efficient, the Snapdragon 1000 processor is expected to rival the performance of Intel’s Core U series processors.
