realme Remains on Top in Market Share – IDC 2022 Q2 Report

realme maintains its dominance in the Philippines when it comes to smartphones according to the Q2 2022 report of IDC with a solid 21.8% market share. Despite its dominance, second placer Transsion–the brand that covers Infinix, TECNO, and itel, is catching up nicely with a market share of 20.6%.

In its analysis, realme’s dominance in the Philippines is credited through its 9 series, which helped a lot in making the brand competitive in the mid-range segment. In addition to that, realme has expanded its ways of selling its products–these include opening its own TikTok store and holding live shopping sessions.

Transsion, on the other hand, was able to keep up its momentum in second place thanks to the retail expansion plans and martketing campaigns for Infinix, where the brand accounts for 60% of Transsion’s shipments.

Xiaomi was able to climb back to third place thanks to the sales of its entry-level phones like the Redmi 10C. In addition to that, Xiaomi’s main strength was in online sales, where it consistently is part of the top 5 best-selling mobile brands during Shopee’s monthly campaigns.

Samsung dropped to fourth place due to the declining sales of its A-series midrange models. However, Samsung did thrive in the 5G market, growing its market by 146.2% compared to last year. Samsung’s 5G phones make up almost 40% of its total shipments. vivo makes its return to the top 5 thanks to the sales of its entry-level phones like the Y15s and Y15a.

IDC notes that compared to the same period last year, shipments for Q2 2022 declined by 3.1%–but grew by 9.1% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).

“The number of smartphone shipments below US$ 200 improved significantly QoQ, as players such as Transsion and Cherry Mobile launched new models in this segment, but remained low on an annual basis, due to low demand and supply. The number of shipments for models in the higher price categories also slowed down as consumer spending declined due to economic headwinds,” said IDC Philippines Market Analyst Angela Medez.
